Our engagement with Cherry Bekaert (CB) was one disappointment and disaster after another. It turned out that the CB personnel were learning about NC OSBM reporting requirements on the job, having promised me multiple times that they understood and knew all about OSBM reporting requirements. CB made mistakes after mistakes, and we were billed by CB to pay for them to correct the mistakes they had made. Also, after I announced we would terminate our engagement of Cherry Bekaert at the end of Q3 for cause, we were billed, as we expected to be, and promptly paid each of the last two monthly engagement fees, only to discover the CB personnel did absolutely nothing during the last three months of our engagement and payments to them on the forthcoming OSBM Smartsheet reporting for Q3. The CB people were nice, but their experience and accounting knowledge with nonprofits and state government reporting requirements like our grant which we had asked for multiple times was simply not there.

You asked for a review... So here it is. The services we engaged CB on were overpriced, not clearly defined or defensible when we requested billing support documentation. The end results did not produce any additional value to our business as was promised.

Extremely disappointed that in over 40 years of filing taxes - this is the first time that an extension has had to be filed. If this were because we had failed to turn in everything in a timely manner? I’d understand. The lack of communication leaves much to be desired. We’ve been customers for many years. We will be searching for a different company to do our taxes in 2025.
